The Boy Who Dreamed of Stages
From the earliest days of his childhood, D1do was no stranger to dreams. They came to him in vivid hues, visions of stages bathed in light, the roar of an audience, and the undeniable thrill of performance. But as so often happens, life had other plans. The practicalities of adulthood beckoned, and the young dreamer found himself on a different path, navigating the world of entrepreneurial ventures and purposeful event production.
Success, however, did not silence the whispers of his heart. There was a persistent sense of something missing, an incompleteness that gnawed at him. He was hiding from something, something he had to give to the world. Through the years, music – the language of his soul – kept tugging at his intuition. But fear, that old adversary, disguised as logic, held him back. “It’s too hard to make a career around music,” he told himself, building walls of self-doubt.
A Beacon in the Dark
Then, in 2015, came a moment of serendipity. Almost on a whim, D1do entered a song into a JUNO songwriters contest. The song, a collaboration with featured artists Joanna Bis, Dre Pao, and Don Carlo, resonated with listeners. They won the people's choice, performed on live TV, and attended the JUNOs. It was a sign, a beacon from the universe, a gentle nudge to step into the dream.
The California Dream
Yet, it wasn't until 2019 that the spark ignited into a flame. Something greater was calling, and it was time to answer. With the audacity of a man who had always dreamed of music and California, D1do decided to release his first single and spontaneously book a flight to California to film the video.
#DREAMIN’, his debut single, was born. The campaign, built around the question, "If you follow your heart, will it know the way?" captured the essence of his leap of faith. He vlogged the entire process, sharing his journey with the world. The universe responded. Miracles unfolded, interactions deepened, and a path started to reveal itself.
A Declaration of Purpose
Encouraged by these signs, D1do enrolled in a four-week leadership program. It was a transformative experience, a journey inward that forced him to confront what he was hiding from. He had to let go of old paths and embrace the clarity of his vision. Music was calling, and he had to answer, even without knowing where it would lead.
He left the program with a declaration to himself: to release 10 original singles and 10 original music videos. It was a commitment to his dream, a promise to keep walking the path, even if he couldn’t see the destination.
#AFFiRMATiONanthems: A Movement Is Born
Over two and a half years later, the mission was complete. But in that time, something even greater had emerged. The seeds of #AFFiRMATiONanthems had been sown, a movement dedicated to empowering individuals through music. An incredible band had formed, along with a community of co-creative artists and visionaries who shared the vision.
No More Hiding
D1do's journey is a testament to the transformative power of taking that first leap, even if it comes years later. He hopes his story will inspire others to gather the courage to chase their dreams, to silence the self-doubt that holds them back. #AFFiRMATiONanthems is more than just music; it’s a tool for rewiring neural pathways, for cultivating self-belief, and for embracing the fullness of who we are.
